The school does not call you from a car lot
VA flagged education scams and fraud this month. The pattern is old: pressure to “use it or lose it,” a school you never looked up, a form that wants a fee or a bank login. Post-9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill, and Chapter 1606 all start with VA Form 22-1990 on VA.gov — or the school’s certifying official after you are admitted.
Remaining entitlement is on VA.gov. The Comparison Tool is on VA.gov. If a recruiter already knows your months and wants a card number today, hang up.
Apply, then the school certifies
Online 22-1990. Mail if you must. Average education-claim processing on VA’s page has been about 30 days — confirm live. Chapter 31 VR&E is a different door if a service-connected disability is in the way of work. Chapter 35 is for qualified dependents. None of those are sold on Facebook.
