Two calendars, not one
If you are drilling Guard or Reserve and you are waiting for “open season” to get healthcare, you have the wrong product in your head. TRICARE Open Season (this year: 9 November through 8 December 2026, effective 1 January 2027) is when families and retirees can swap Prime and Select without a qualifying life event. It does not apply to the active-duty sponsor. TRICARE Reserve Select is not on that list.
TRS is a purchase. Selected Reserve. Not on qualifying active-duty TRICARE. Not FEHB-eligible. Then milConnect → Benefits → Beneficiary Web Enrollment. 2026 published premiums: $57.88 member, $286.66 family. Rank does not change the premium. Deductibles do.
What to do this week
Confirm DEERS is clean. Run the TRS checker on this site. Enroll on milConnect, not a third-party form. If you already have TRS, open season still does not apply to you — you keep it until you lose Selected Reserve status or cancel.
FEDVIP vision and dental have their own open season on BENEFEDS. TDP is United Concordia, not BENEFEDS. Do not mash three portals into one story.
Cancel TRS and you generally cannot reenroll for 12 months. A newborn is not automatic — 90 days (120 overseas) from birth or adoption or they have no coverage. The FEHB lockout for TRS is still in force; that exclusion is written through 1 January 2030. Confirm on TRICARE.mil.
