Fry Scholarship is not the veteran’s GI Bill.

The Fry Scholarship can pay school for a child, and in some cases a spouse, of a service member who died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001, or of a member who died from a service-connected disability. DEA Chapter 35 is the other dependent school benefit. You do not collect both for the same enrollment.

  1. 01

    Read which death qualifies.

The Fry page names the deaths that qualify. A death that does not meet that page is not Fry. DEA Chapter 35 may still apply if the veteran was permanent and total, or died of a service-connected condition.

  2. 02

The child or spouse applies. The veteran does not spend it.

Use the GI Bill Comparison Tool, then the dependent education application on VA.gov. The school still has to certify the enrollment.
