What 30 days of orders does to TRS
Drill, AT, and orders of 30 days or less stay on the inactive door. More than 30 days is active-duty TRICARE from day one of the orders. Deactivating is a 90-day qualifying life event. Recut from TRICARE.mil. I will not file it.

Name the length of the orders before you touch BWE
Recut from TRICARE.mil When Inactive: weekend drills (IDT), annual training, and active service of 30 days or less are inactive. You may keep or buy TRICARE Reserve Select. Line of duty care covers an injury incurred or aggravated on those orders — family is not on LOD. Recut from TRICARE.mil LOD.

More than 30 days: you are not TRS for that stretch
Recut from TRICARE.mil: members of the Selected Reserve do not qualify for TRS while on active-duty orders for more than 30 days, or while covered under TAMP. Personnel updates DEERS. Deactivating is a qualifying life event — 90 days
Recut from TRICARE.mil Deactivating: leaving active duty after more than 30 days is a QLE. You have 90 days after the deactivation date to change the TRICARE health plan. Contingency operation, 12304b, or a national emergency declared by Congress or the President: TAMP is 180 days starting the day after active duty ends. Then you may purchase TRS again if you still drill. Other activations: no TAMP — buy TRS if you qualify, or CHCBP, or a civilian plan.
