Install the VA Health and Benefits app
The same verified account that opens VA.gov also opens the official app: claims, appointments, refills, secure messages, letters, and payment history in your pocket.

Get the official app, not a look-alike
Install VA: Health and Benefits from the Apple App Store or Google Play, or start from VA.gov's own app page. Delete anything that asks you to pay for a 'VA unlock' or a 'secret claim.'

Sign in with the same Login.gov or ID.me account
Do not create a third username. One verified identity across the website and the phone is the entire point of the 2025 sign-in change.

Turn on notifications for claims and messages
VA now pushes claim updates by app notification, email, and text. That is how you find out they need more evidence before a claim sits untouched.

Learn the five things the app is actually good at
Check claim status. Download a benefit letter. Refill a VA prescription. Read appointment details. Send a secure message. If you only use it for one of those, you are already ahead of most of the formation.
