Community care and travel pay

After you enroll in VA health care, community care is how VA sends you to a community provider when they cannot see you in time or nearby. Travel pay reimburses eligible mileage. You file it.

   Be enrolled in VA health care

   10-10EZ first. Community care is not a workaround for people who never applied.

   Ask the VA facility before you book civilian care out of pocket

   Drive-time, wait-time, and some specialty rules decide community care. Random ER is not automatically covered.

   File travel pay after eligible appointments

   Keep the appointment proof. File on VA.gov. They do not guess you drove.
