Medicare Part B is the on-switch. TFL is not automatic.

TRICARE For Life is wraparound coverage once you have Medicare Part A and Part B. Most people hit it at 65. Gray-area retirees usually get regular retiree TRICARE when retired pay starts (60, or reduced age), then TFL later. Recut from TRICARE.mil — enroll Part B on Medicare.gov.
